gut feeling

Super early punky Devo. If you can be bothered to sit through a pretty crappy quality video, it's worth it to hear Gut Feeling and see Mark Mothersbaugh ripping clothes and walrus moustaches off his band members. Awesome!

And if want to see them a year later performing in hotpants...ha

Mucking about in the studio. Thought I might do a series of hairdo's, this is Bird's Nest and Lion's Mane.

angostura girl skateboards!

Angostura Girl finally comes to cardboard cut out life as Sofia Vergara assigns her as Angostura's official rep (while she's away). Seen skateboarding, on public transport, and hanging with half naked dudes. Watch the commercial here and read about Angostura Girl's previous dormant life here commonly referred to as nipplegate.

shapes and colours of bali

Just returned from a 2 week break in Bali. Semi relaxing if you ignore the plane flights with an 18mth old. I think there is a reason why they fly for free before 2.

do the monkey

Love this by Pan Ron, a 60's Cambodian singer. And how cool is the dancing? After more research I came across this doco about Cambodian rock music in the 60's and how it was nearly destroyed by the Khmer Rouge in the 70's. I'm not sure if this movie is recent but it looks great, although so sad.

ace birthday gifts

My birthday was in April but I was so frantic I didn't have time to post these beauties.

The artwork was made by Tim, bits of collected paper and found objects from the street, perfectly stitched together. How ace is it? I think he should have an exhibition of these, although I wouldn't want to part with them.

This beauty was a gift from my sisters, a 40's mannequin head. Isn't she amazing? Goes well with my other mannequin head found in NY. She needs a nice stand for her.

I bought one of these Mexican bandit puppets for my nephew when I was in Mexico and always thought, 'damn why didn't I get one for myself?' Some friends found three vintage ones. Ivy is already eyeing them off.

Other ace pressies included a wooden travelling plein air artist case, a signed and numbered Beatesville book, and sweet 60's tunes (psychotic reaction 45" hello!) How great are my friends and family for buying me such arty, kooky, rockin' pressies? Thank you!

the black angels

Seeing this band from Austin this Sat night. Anyone who gets Roky onstage to sing his best song ever from the 13th Floor Elevators is worth seeing I say. They even get those weird noises right.

catalogue is up!

The entire catalogue of paintings and prints is up here. The colours are much brighter in real life (on my computer screen they look a little different anyway). Higher res pics can be found on my flickr site and artwhatson. Thanks to James Pipino and assistant Alyssia for taking the artwork shots.

thanks!..

'Bam'

'Bottoms Up'

'Tan Fastic'

'Play Your Cards Right'

..to everyone who came to the opening on Thurs night and special thanks to those who bought! Here are some of the works hanging in the show. The entire catalogue should be uploaded here soon. And if you missed the show it's open until June 25th.

These four works are also available as giclee prints. Lamington Drive did an awesome job of printing them. People were asking if they were originals.

the show is hung!

Thanks to action Timmy for helping out. Lamington Drive is a cardboard gallery so I really wanted to paint something on the walls. You'll have to come to see the end result. Got a nice write up here too. Come say hi if you come along.

I've been looking at lots of old ads for inspiration for my exhibition and came across this! Sizes 2-12, really? Bet Ivy would look saucy in this??!

Dreaming in patterns

A few months of dreaming in patterns, and I have my folio ready for a massive licensing show which opens this Sunday in New York. My agent will be spruiking my wares and with any luck we might get a bite. I'd love to jump on a plane to check it out (any excuse to go to New York right, and to leave this hideous weather!) but I gotta get back to the studio and paint. Here are a couple of my fave designs. Oh and if you happen to be in New York from the 15th- 17th, checkout Surtex Booth #446 and say hello to Fran and Michael.
