victorian name brooches

While I'm on a roll, this is my first ace op shop find of 2012, a sweet Victorian name brooch, Alice. I did some research on this and they were popular in the 1880's to the 1920's. The plainer ones were given to the servants as gifts whilst the more detailed ones were given as sweetheart brooches. There was a strong botanical and Japanese influence during this period which would explain the fan. I'd love to know the history of Alice. Check out these other examples below. Fanny, now there's a name!

So sorry Caroline! I apologise for the lapse of credit. I probably just googled the image and lost the link. I will endeavour to be more thorough next time. Lots of vintage jewellery treats to be found on your site! http://www.bagthejewels.co.uk/vintage-jewellery-etc-antique-and-vintage-jewellery-that-might-tempt-you-75-c.asp
